The Organic Fruit and Veggie Garden Is In!

It doesn’t look like much yet, but hopefully there will be a variety of squash, tomatoes, cucumber, peppers, eggplant, beans, onions, and herbs. Plus an orange, avocado, lemon, lime, and grapefruit tree! Oh and rhubarb too.

The lovely Lara Hermanson from Farmscape edible landscaping helped with the design and planting since I’m a gardening newbie.

Lola supervised our work and I learned so much! The most interesting tip Lara gave me is: Cut the fruit off seedlings you are transplanting so the plant will focus energy on taking root and settling in, instead of on growing it’s babies. It’s a bit counterintuitive but it makes sense!

I had so much fun but I will need a new manicure. Ha! A small price to pay. Afterwards I took a hike behind the house and look what I found…

wow that’s quite the steep hill there, good workout though. You are lucky to live in such a nice climate, we live in Northern Ontario, we don’t have orange trees , I do however have a 4 yr old avacado I grew from seed and it’s about 6 ft tall now , but he only lives outside in the summer, they dont make long johns for trees
